Safely returning to worship at Thamesview United Church
We are returning to a familiar, sacred space in a way that may not be familiar.
The Safe Return Committee was formed in the spring and met several times to provide guidance: Bob Harris, Sandy Kreis, Stephanie Shute, Rev. Nancy and Kate Monk. We’ve followed guidelines from the province and from our local health unit. We’ve received input from the congregation through two surveys. We continue to receive information from the health unit, province and the United Church. We know things can change each week.
We’ve made recommendations to council and we feel confident we can worship together safely, following some simple rules.
At this time, we would like people be fully vaccinated to enter the building and to follow safety protocols. We realize children can’t be vaccinated and they are welcome. We know there are medical reasons why some adults won’t be vaccinated. We are hopeful that in the near future our worship services will be opened again to everyone. We will be reviewing this policy regularly, as new information and protocols are updated by health professionals and the province.
We are happy we can provide online services for people who aren’t here in person. We know viewing online isn’t the same as being in person, but right now, nothing is the same. We need to keep everyone safe.
Greeters will not be asking for proof of vaccination like restaurants and other businesses. We are a community of faith operating in a spirit of trust. Each Saturday, you’ll receive a COVID screening questionnaire by email. Please review it before you come to church. You don’t need to reply to the church to let us know how you answered the questions.
If you are feeling unwell, please stay at home (and tune into our YouTube channel).
Let’s wear our masks over our mouths and noses, sanitize our hands and keep some distance between us.
We love to greet each other with handshakes and hugs and those will have to wait for awhile.
And we love our time of fellowship after the service. We’re happy that we’re able to gather in the parking lot after the service for refreshments.
A huge thanks to the people who donated money for the recording equipment and the volunteers operators. We are working through the glitches of uniting our sound system with the new equipment and are confident we will be able to provide a quality product.
Be safe! Stay well
